Shinny

The Dirigo Hockey League organizes weeknight pickup hockey every week of the year, providing players with an opportunity to stay active, get additional ice time, and connect with others in the league. Because these skates are not USA Hockey sanctioned, participants are required by the host rinks to sign a waiver before taking part. Shinny is separate from regular league play.

Shinny is also one of the best ways for new players interested in joining the Dirigo Hockey League to meet current players and find a team. Many players who eventually join the league first get involved through these weekly skates.

Most skates are held at the Bonnefond Ice Arena at Kents Hill School. During the spring, skates are held at the Ice Vault in Hallowell.

The league organizes two skates each week, generally divided into an “A” skate and a “B” skate, although those designations are not strict. Skates are highly organized and numbers are capped at 10 skaters and one goalie per team, ensuring no more than two lines and one goalie per side.

Weekly spots are first offered to existing skaters. Players interested in joining can email richardjfortin@gmail.com or text 207-485-2445 to be added to the backup list. If you are new to the league and looking for an opportunity to skate, we will make every effort to get you into an upcoming session.
