About
The Dirigo Hockey League is a competitive adult hockey league based in central Maine, designed for players with fast-paced experience. Participants are former varsity high school athletes, with many also having played at the NCAA, junior, or prep school level. The league offers skilled, organized play in a respectful, player-first environment, ideal for those looking to compete hard, and enjoy the game with others who’ve played at a serious level.
The fall/winter season begins in late September, with games every Sunday through early March, plus two weeks of playoffs. No games will be scheduled on Super Bowl Sunday. The spring season begins in mid April and runs to late June or early July, depending on the number of teams.
The Dirigo Hockey League operates out of two local facilities depending on the season. Fall/winter games currently take place at the Bonnefond Ice Arena, located in the Alfond Athletics Center on the Kents Hill School campus in Readfield, approximately 20 minutes from Augusta, 30 minutes from Lewiston/Auburn, and 35 minutes from Waterville. Spring season games are currently held at the Thomas College Ice Vault in Hallowell, just outside of Augusta.
The Dirigo Hockey League is built on the values that define Maine. Maine’s motto, Dirigo (“I lead”), reflects the independence and integrity we aim to uphold. This league is for the players. We prioritize fair play and respect, and we want players to compete and enjoy hockey without being overlooked or overcharged.
